World of Dreams Photo of the Week

Well, the holiday season is once again in full swing down at Walt Disney World! The decorations are up, the carols have begun playing and the Christmas Season is well underway! Indeed, the first Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party of 2013 is due to begin within the hour at the time I am writing this, something which I can't wait to read all the coverage of tomorrow morning! Seeing all the magical things Disney are doing to celebrate Christmas is always wonderful, and truly helps me to get into that Christmas Spirit, as I know that the 25th of December isn't far away!

Unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to experience Disney at Christmas, so can't offer a Christmas Photo for you today. Instead I have elected to show you a photograph of an incredible decoration from the Epcot's annual International Food and Wine Festival, which concludes on Monday. I have experienced the park during this festival once, in 2012, and really enjoyed the ambiance it added to Epcot's already marvellous atmosphere. Whilst I am unsure if this particular decoration was used for this year's festival, back in 2012 it was presented at the park entrance:

I was really struck by how much work had clearly gone in to creating even this simple piece if landscaping for the festival, and really appreciated the efforts Disney had made to have the park looking its best for what is a very special and unique time of year for it. There are some beautiful colours in the image, so I have edited it to really make them stand out, making the picture come to life.

Thanks for reading! If you get the time, please check out the We're Going To Walt Disney World Podcast! We've got a new Show out this week, on which we discuss the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney's Hollywood Studios as well as some of then new additions coming to Walt Disney World, including Avatar Land. Tune in to hear the opinions of Ed, Quinn, Hope and myself.

I hope you have a magical weekend!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week- Happy Halloween!

Hello, and Happy Halloween everybody! I love Halloween- it's one of my favourite holidays- so wanted to delay this week's photograph to today, with a very special Halloween image to celebrate the season!

As I'm sure you know, to say that Disney celebrate Halloween at their parks doesn't even begin to do their Halloween celebrations justice! At Walt Disney World, and at the Magic Kingdom in particular, they truly take celebrating Halloween to the next level, with parties, exclusive experiences, and awesome decorations. And it's one of these incredible decorations- an example of the ubiquitous Mickey Pumpkins to be exact- which is my photo this week. The pumpkin shown is one of the wonderful ones which adorn the lamp posts all along Main Street USA at this time of year, and was photographed last year in the midst of the Magic Kingdom's Halloween Festivities. I've edited it, and I really hope you like the result...

Pretty cool effect, right? I love the colours in the image, especially of the wreath surrounding the pumpkin! Of course, I also love the effect created by what I guess has become my 'signature' tilt shift effect! I'd love to hear what you think- a comment would be much appreciated! Also, check out the blog's Facebook Page for an exclusive version of this picture!

Before I go, I'd just like to leave you with some recommendations for some great Disney websites to visit this Halloween! Firstly Magical Mouse Radio is playing all Disney Halloween music today, with some great audio from Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! I for one have been listening all day, and have been absolutely LOVING it- there is nothing better to get you in that Halloween Spirit! Another thing you should check out this Halloween is Show #7 of the Disney Nerds Podcast. To celebrate the holiday, they have a special Halloween Treat for us, in the form of the original recording of the Haunted Mansion's intriguing backstory, from back in 1969. I've listened, and I can tell you, it is INCREDIBLE! I found myself transfixed from start to finish by this amazing example of Disney Storytelling, and will definitely be listening again and again! The spooky atmosphere it created was perfect for today! Lastly, I have posted some great Halloween Photos to my Instagram account, which is @BloggerDisney.

Thanks for reading! I hope that you're having a 'spook-tacularly' magical Halloween!

And don't forget to check out the awesome We're Going to Walt Disney World Podcast! There's a new show coming soon!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week

So, it's official! Disney's Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World's newest and largest theme park, will be receiving the biggest expansion since its opening on April 22nd, 1998! The expansion, which is already beginning construction, will centre around the much discussed Avatar Land, scheduled to open in 2017, as well as a whole host of smaller projects which will combine to finally make the Animal Kingdom a full-day park.

Here on the blog I have reported extensively on the subject, and wanted to take this opportunity to summarise the four articles I have written on the Animal Kingdom expansion, as well as sharing a photo I took of the beautifully landscaped entrance of this wonderful park. The four articles published are as follows...

1~ 'More Details Shared Concerning Avatar Land...', October 13th.

2~ 'Yet More Avatar Land News!', October 14th

3~ 'My Views on the New Nighttime Entertainment Coming Soon to Animal Kingdom', October 15th.

4~ 'My Views on Avatar Land', October 20th.

If you haven't seen them already, I hope you enjoy reading them!!!

Now for the photograph...

Despite it being a fairly generic shot of the front of the park, I actually think this image turned out pretty well. I used a rectangular tilt shift focus and slightly increased the brightness and saturation, and I think it creates a pretty cool effect. I also like the rare sense of mystery that the tilt shift effect has seemingly created, a perfect connotation for the Walt Disney World park which arguably has the strongest sense of adventure!

Another thing I wanted to talk about is that it is now a year since my family and I were last in Florida, on our second trip. I have so many wonderful memories of the time we spent together at the most magical place on earth, as well as at some of the other attractions in the Central Florida and Orlando area. Of course, Disney was by far the best part of the trip, with us spending A LOT of time at the World! I have so many incredible memories from my time there, and can't wait to return for our third trip, hopefully sometime in 2014!

Thanks for reading! If you haven't yet, please take the time to check out the absolutely awesomely incredible We're Going to Walt Disney World Podcast! I hope you're having a magical week!

My Views on Avatar Land

We as Disney Fans were lucky enough recently to be served a feast of information concerning the upcoming Avatar Land at Animal Kingdom. What we now know to be a project unlike anything Disney has done before was previously shrouded in almost complete mystery, with little knowledge of even if it was still going ahead. But that all changed when Disney decided to announce a sudden flurry of details concerning Avatar, analysed in both this article and also this one here on the World of Dreams Blog. Both posts link back to the original Disney Parks Blog announcements- THE place to go if you haven't yet seen that breathtaking concept art!

I personally was just as shocked by this extremely sudden news as everyone else, whilst of course being INCREDIBLY excited about it too! I've spent several days contemplating what my true view on this hotly debated topic is, and I'm pleased to say that my opinions still resemble the positive outlook I took on the matter back on September 22nd 2011, when I reported on Avatar Land's original announcement on this Blog's predecessor- the Disney Parks Unofficial Blog. Here's what I said back then regarding my first impressions...

Personally, I am really excited about this, although I haven't seen it all, Avatar is a great movie and I think it will fit in perfectly at the Disney Parks, especially Animal Kingdom. I hope that the Avatar land will feature some serious thrill rides, as well as some gentler rides doing credit to this wonderful movie. I would love there to be a rollercoaster and a water ride in Avatar Land! I wonder where Disney will put it? It's hard to expand and change parts of Animal Kingdom due to the animal enclosures. Regardless of this, I think it's great to see Disney giving the park some of the TLC it deserves, and I look forward to more details being released.

So how do I feel now that those details have indeed been released? Since then (2011) I have gone through a short period of scepticism about the project, around the time that it was RUMOURED that Disney were cancelling Avatar altogether. Whilst I never believed this, some of the more critical articles I read, also around that time, made me a little worried about if this new Land would have enough potential for development and if it would have the staying power that any park addition vitally needs.

Fortunately, all my doubts are now gone, and now, just over two years later, I have happily returned to a feeling of excitement about the new experiences this will bring to me as a fan of the Disney Parks. That feeling was firmly cemented by Disney's aforementioned recent series of announcements concerning the project, with the beautiful concept art, promising attraction concepts and passion with which James Cameron and Joe Rohde spoke about this project convincing me for good that Avatar Land is going to be awesome.

Any questions of how much staying power the land will have with regards to the popularity of the franchise have vanished due to Disney seeming to be focusing pretty much exclusively on the stunning environment of Pandora from the Avatar movie rather than the characters who inhabit it. Hitherto even if the popularity of the Avatar story declines, the Animal Kingdom Land's most likely won't, as it'll still be a highly themed area. As many before me have already pointed out, just because people haven't seen the movie, it doesn't mean they won't enjoy and grow to love how the movie's represented in a theme park- just look at Splash Mountain. I have still only seen the start of Avatar, yet I find myself enthralled and excited to see the incredible environments I witnessed in the movie translated into a theme park environment. Yes, Disney should have used one of their own franchises if they had to use one, and yes, they should be building more original attractions with no movie connection, but Avatar is a unique and inimitable story, and the majority of Animal Kingdom's existing attractions are original concepts anyway.

In terms of the attractions, firstly I'm thrilled that I was right about the boat ride! I just feel that the setting, themes and atmosphere of Animal Kingdom are absolutely perfect for a relaxing, maybe non-thrill ride boat attraction, and it seems that the park's finally getting one. The concept art shows exactly that- a boat trip through Pandora's wondrous bioluminescent jungle- and it looks like it's going to be awesome. It seems like we'll be getting an Imagineering classic here, such is the potential for this attraction. So far all that can be inferred from the concept art is that this attraction will be something like a sci-fi version of Epcot's Living With the Land, leaving many questions unanswered. What storyline will there be? Will there be any elements of thrill? How long will the attraction last? Here's to hoping that Disney gives us more information soon on this one!

The other attraction we know to be featuring in Avatar Land's opening day lineup is one we know considerably more about. It will feature a simulation of the sensation of flying with a Banshee, one of the winged creatures from the Avatar Movie. We have seen concept art, and have also been treated to a few precious seconds of video of what appears to be the testing of early animations for the attraction. This has led to many predicting this attraction to be similar to Soarin', also at Epcot, but I've heard rumours reporting a more advanced verbose of the complex ride system used by Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at Universal's Islands of Adventure. Disney have confirmed neither, but I personally am desperately hoping for the second one. In my opinion, as ingenious as it is, Disney shouldn't try to re-use the ride system for Soarin', and should rather attempt to innovate even further- as Joe Rohde suggested they are- and create a ride system unlike anything ever seen before. We shall have to wait and see!

Lastly, I have found myself particularly fascinated by the floating mountains which will form the centrepiece of the new Land. Aside from being very curious about the actual structure, I am very excited to see how this will change the landscape of the park. My answer to those who worry that this new 'wienie' will distract from the Tree of Life, the park's true icon, is that Expedition Everest already has the potential to do that, and doesn't. Rather, the two work perfectly together to create a park environment which still has the Tree as it's crowning glory, despite it being smaller. However big these floating mountains are, they won't exceed Everest's 199.5 feet, as being any higher would require them to have lights on top to alert passing air traffic. This would disrupt the theme, so Disney never build above that height. One thing we can be certain about is that these mountains will be spellbindingly beautiful, but not so that they steal attention from the Tree of Life. I actually think they will create more of a balance within the park, with them joining Everest in flanking the Tree of Life, putting it even more so at the centre of attention than it is now.

So overall it's fair to say that I'm pretty excited about Avatar Land... Who am I kidding- I CAN'T WAIT!!! It looks like it's going to be terrific- a much needed major addition to the Animal Kingdom.

Now I want to hear your thoughts! Am I anticipating Avatar Land too much, or are you just as excited as me? (I hope you are!) What are your opinions? Please share by either posting in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter, or by writing a good old fashioned email message. Details of all of these can be found on the Blog's 'Contact Us' page!

Apologies for the lack of Photo of the Week and Attraction Review this week. I was on a Geography Field Trip, and simply didn't have enough time to get them published, due to preparing and packing prior to the trip and relaxing afterwards. I really had an amazing time, and am looking forward even more to getting back to the blog's regular schedule!

My Views on the New Nighttime Entertainment Coming Soon to Animal Kingdom

There is no questioning the fact that the recent Avatar Land News has been at the forefront of discussions amongst Disney Fans over the past few days. It's fair to say that this very exciting piece of news has very much overshadowed the other upcoming new additions to the Animal Kingdom, which were announced by Tom Staggs at the same time as the Avatar developments; in the same article even! It's therefore no wonder that this additional revelation, every bit as exciting, hasn't been talked about nearly as much as Avatar has!

Specifically, we have learnt that Disney are finally allowing the Animal Kingdom to complete its transition to a full day park, and are doing so through the addition of a variety of new entertainment offerings, most notably the park's first ever nighttime spectacular. This has been widely rumoured for a long time, and will ensure that every Walt Disney World theme park has an end of the night show. The show, which is yet to be publicly named by Disney, will take place on Discovery River, and will interestingly feature live music, alongside what Tom Staggs describes as “floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery”. Mr Staggs also promises that the new show “will delight our guests and truly cap off their day...
In addition to this, he revealed that a new nighttime version of the ever-popular Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction will debut, as well as live performers in the evenings on Discovery Island, of which some concept art was released.

My first reaction is another 'wow'- Disney have really spoilt us over the last few days with all these exciting announcements for what many consider to be Walt Disney World's best themed park! The Animal Kingdom is an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful theme park, and I for one can't wait to experience just how incredible its atmosphere will be at night! Having never experienced the park at this time (opportunities to do so are very rare due to short opening hours), I am really looking forward to being able to walk around and soak up the park's unique ambiance at night, which I feel will be enhanced in so many ways by how Disney present the park to compliment the advantages brought by evening touring. And as for experiencing Kilimanjaro Safaris at night, three words- I'M SO EXCITED!!! Not sure I feel quite the same about Kali River Rapids though!

With regards to the nighttime spectacular- I have a feeling that this is gonna become a classic! I think that having this will not only really benefit the park, but will also help to add a whole new dimension to the experience of visiting it, and will truly make it 'the place to be' in the evenings at Walt Disney World. I like that they seem to be taking a different approach to this than with the more traditional nighttime spectaculars, and will be intrigued to see how the Imagineers use this unique, beautifully themed setting to help tell a very profound story with this show, and indeed how they use the show to help deliver the Animal Kingdom's message of conservation and loving our wonderful planet. There is so much potential here, and it looks like this is shaping up to be an experience which will be every bit as unforgettable as Wishes, Illuminations and Fantasmic.

It seems almost a certainty that this show will in some way incorporate the Glow With the Show Ear Hats, which have been available at Disneyland for some time, and cleverly light up and synchronise with their nighttime spectaculars to add a whole new dimension to the experience. Today's Disney news has been that the hats will be making their Walt Disney World debut in tonight's two performances of Fantasmic at Disney's Hollywood Studios. This is to celebrate Fantasmic's 15th anniversary at the park, with the Ears then making their Magic Kingdom debut on the 19th in Wishes and Celebrate the Magic. No word yet on when (or if) they'll be appearing in Epcot, but the article on the Disney Parks Blog at the above link reports that the hats will feature in the Christmas festivities at WDW this year. Based on this, I assume that Disney will be incorporating them into the new Animal Kingdom show! These are exciting times indeed to be a Disney Fan!

Now I want to hear what YOU think! Be your opinions about Avatar, Glow With the Show or the Animal Kingdom's new nighttime offerings (or even everything!), I'd love to hear what you think. Any feedback about the blog is also much appreciated! You can get in touch through the comments, on Facebook, Twitter, or by email. Details of all can be found on the Blog's 'Contact Us' page!

Yet More Avatar Land News!

The past few days have seen the Disney Community abuzz with excited activity, following Friday's announcement by Tom Staggs at both the D23 Expo in Japan and on the Disney Parks Blog concerning new details about the much anticipated Avatar Land, set to open at Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2017. Following my article yesterday on this exciting piece of news, I was planning an article for today detailing my views (of which I have many!) on the information shared about Avatar Land, as well as my thoughts on the prospects this new area will have and finally opinions which I have encountered in this wonderful Disney Community of ours over the few days since the news broke. But then... More news!!!

Today saw Thomas Smith- the Social Media Director for the Disney Parks- share an awe-inspiring video about Avatar Land, which was originally shown alongside Tom Staggs' presentation in Japan. The video, which was released as part of this Disney Parks Blog Article, features messages from both James Cameron and Joe Rohde, as well as some fascinating animated concept art, clips from Avatar showing things that will be brought to life in Avatar Land, and so much more.

All I can say is wow. Wow, wow, wow. Just wow. This is going to be absolutely amazing! Whilst there was never even the faintest whisper of a doubt in my mind that the Imagineers would make what is widely considered to be an unusual choice for a new land as magical and immersive as all of their previous work, it seems like they have truly outdone themselves as they always do without fail with every new experience they bring to the parks. Any scepticism I did have towards Avatar coming to Animal Kingdom has completely vanished, and I am now more excited about this new addition to the park than I have been since its original announcement. Joe Rohde and James Cameron spoke with such enthusiasm and passion about the project that I couldn't help feeling the same way about it myself, and am now itching to learn more about the experiences that will be offered when this new land opens.

I won't say anything else- only that if you haven't already, go watch that video! I promise that you won't be disappointed! I for one can't wait to see Avatar Land to come to fruition, nor can I wait to write more about my views on the subject, an article which I will publish sometime at the weekend, as I want to give this news time to settle and see what other people's opinions are on it. Therefore it's actually quite convenient that I'm having to delay the article somewhat!

Thanks for reading! Please also check out the amazing We're Going to Walt Disney World Podcast! Have a magical day, and see you tomorrow for an article about the other changes coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom!

More Details Shared Concerning Avatar Land...

If for some reason you haven't been online this weekend, you've missed some pretty incredible and in my opinion very intriguing news! Updates for the much debated upcoming Avatar Land at Animal Kingdom have been few and far between since its September 2011 Announcement, but now that's no longer the case. At midnight on Friday evening, at the same time as an official announcement at the D23 Expo in Japan, Tom Staggs published this exciting article on the Disney Parks Blog, exhibiting some breathtaking concept art, as well as some details on the experiences this new land will offer.

Mr Staggs describes such wonders as 'awe- inspiring floating mountains' and 'a nighttime jungle of bioluminescent plants', whilst also teasing information about an attraction themed to flying with a Banshee, just like in the movie.

This could well be the long rumoured Soarin'-esque attraction which many have considered a certainty for Avatar Land for a while now. This would be a great idea in my opinion, especially if they could take the natural next step in how immersive that attraction concept is and make it a 360 degree screen. Soarin' at Epcot has proved to be consistently popular ever since it opened, despite technical issues, and I think that Disney will recognise how good this original attraction concept is and will want to explore its potential to an even further extent.

That said however, the concept art seems to suggest something a bit different. It shows a series of Banshees with a single person aboard each of them, making me think that this attraction could be more akin to a dark ride, or even a rollercoaster. Some kind of simulator also springs to mind, which I actually feel might prove to be more likely due to the sheer scale of Pandora- the alien world on which Avatar is set- as a setting. Having a screen allows so much more potential for the development of that.

The other attraction hinted at in the article is some kind of boat ride, which the concept art shows as being set in the aforementioned nighttime jungle. This is almost certainly a dark ride, and I truly hope that it'll be one which they really let the Imagineers make awesome. Not that I can think of any times where this hasn't been the case, it's just I would love to see the potential of the environments from the film used to the greatest extent possible. It will be interesting to see what kind of storyline this attraction follows, whether it'll exclusively be about a 'tour' of the jungle, or if there'll be an element of adventure and some thrill ride features too.

As with the rest of my fellow Disney Fans, I have a great deal of opinions on what it's fair to say is proving to be one of the most divisive additions in the history of Disney Parks. Construction has barely even begun on this new land, and its opening is at least 3 years away, but Avatar has already become the subject of much discussion in all corners of the Disney Community. Tomorrow I'll be presenting that very opinion of mine in an entirely new post, such is the length of my ramblings! Then check back on Tuesday for my opinions on the other announcements shared by Disney about what will be the biggest expansion in Animal Kingdom's 15 year history! That will be followed by the normal Photo of the Week on Wednesday and Attraction Review on Friday. Last week's Attraction Review has been pushed back to then to accommodate this post.

World of Dreams Photo of the Week- Celebrating Magic Kingdom's 42nd Birthday!!!

It's truly amazing to think that the Magic Kingdom- and in turn the whole of Walt Disney World- turned 42 just last week. The park's 42 year history has seen it grow and grow, evolving since its opening in 1971 to become the magical metropolis of dreams we know and love today. I think I speak for all my fellow Disney fans when I say that the park is more than deserving of its status as the most magical place on Earth!
The Magic Kingdom's exciting history has been more than worthy of the wonderful place it represents, and has featured an abundance of pure Disney Classics in terms of attractions and entertainment; some still in operation whilst others are unfortunately not. Whilst it's always sad to see an attraction go (believe it or not, I would miss Stitch's Great Escape!), Disney can always be counted on to replace any closed attractions with an experience which is equally- or even considerably more- impressive than its predecessor. The great thing about Disney is that you can always count on them having something new and exciting in the works for our future enjoyment!
So, for that very reason, I have decided to mark this sensational theme park's 42nd anniversary in a slightly different fashion. Instead of focusing on the park's past, I have elected to focus on something which is looking very bright for the Magic Kingdom right now- its future. Never has the famous quotation “There's a great big beautiful tomorrow...” been more appropriate!
The undisputed biggest element of this intriguing future is undoubtably the Seven Dwarves Mine Train, which will complete the New Fantasyland project when it opens, widely believed to be early next year. This attraction will utilise brand new technology, and will be a more than worthy replacement for Snow White's Scary Adventures, which made way for Princess Fairytale Hall- New Fantasyland's primary meet-and-greet location which opened last month. The Mine Train, which will bring the rollercoaster total in Magic Kingdom up to four, will be the final major piece of New Fantasyland, a project that has dominated Walt Disney World construction over the past few years.
As this much anticipated new addition to the park nears completion, photographs of the Imagineers' progress with construction are everywhere, meaning one can easily see the attraction taking shape by regularly being on the lookout for new pictures. I wanted you, my readers, to be able to compare the attraction in its different stages of development, and so have chosen to show you a picture I captured of it just under a year ago, on my last trip to Walt Disney World, so you can also observe just how far it's come in the space of little less than twelve months.
For the ride in its current state I would highly recommend these awesome pictures on WDW Magic which were shared yesterday and have some great views of the detail going into this new environment. It's easy to see that this attraction has evolved so much since I went in October 2012...

Despite the fact that it pretty much just shows a construction site (hey, it is a DISNEY construction site- automatically awesome!) I do really like this photograph, which I took just outside the entrance to Pooh's Thotful Shop. I've made some pretty significant editorial changes, most notably increasing the saturation quite dramatically, as well as adding a cool tilt shift effect, which I'm becoming quite a fan of! I think the composition turned out pretty good too, especially for an iPod 4th Generation Camera!
Thanks for reading, it's great to FINALLY be back into the rhythm of writing for the blog! If you have the time, please check out the incredibly magical We're Going to Walt Disney World Podcast! I hope you have a magical day, and see you tomorrow for my long-awaited ImageWorks Attraction Review!

By Way of Apology...

Hi everyone- I hope you're having a magical week! I just wanted to quickly write this post to apologise for not fulfilling my promise of posting on the blog last week. After saying I finally had enough free time to give the blog the attention it deserves... Well, it seems I might have tempted fate! It's been one of those weeks I'm afraid, with several last minute arrangements, most notably a new project for the School Council which I'm a member of at my school, which I've been working incredibly hard on! Unfortunately, when added to homework, sports and everything else I struggled to write the posts last week. However, I had a considerably less busy evening today, meaning I had more than enough time to write some exciting posts for the blog! Stay tuned for a Photo of the Week tomorrow and that Epcot Attraction Review on Friday!

I can't wait to share these new posts with you!

Blog Update, and Walt Disney World's 42nd Anniversary!

Hello again everyone- I'm so incredibly excited to be back on the blog!

I must apologise for the lack of posts and also the lack of explanation for that. As I have mentioned a few times on Twitter, school restarted after summer a few weeks ago, and, as I predicted, this year is proving to be very busy for myself and my year group! I am now in Year 11 here in England, the second, last and hitherto busiest year of GCSEs. Because of this, the past three weeks have been incredibly manic for my friends and I, thanks mainly to the tests we've had for the school to be able to test our progress at the beginning of this extremely important year. When coupled with sports, family gatherings and of course existing homework this unfortunately left me with very little time to write for the blog.

Luckily the exams are all over, and I'm happy to report that they went wonderfully well! Even better is the fact that I can now resume my regular schedule with regards to the blog, which I'm very much looking forward to! As I'm sure you all know, I love sharing my love of Disney, and Walt Disney World in particular, by writing this blog. I'm aiming to make myself more organised in terms of writing posts, something which admittedly I didn't get the opportunity to do in the past few weeks due to the sheer volume of work!

Like I said, the blog will now resume its regular schedule. I have a brand new Photo of the Week coming tomorrow, which I hope you will all find interesting, which will be followed by a review of ImageWorks at Epcot, coming your way on Friday. These two posts will go back to their regular weekly rotation.

Also, I have made a decision regarding Pin of the Fortnight and My Top Seven. I very much enjoy writing both posts, and have got some great ones lined up for you over the next few weeks. What I have decided to do is relax the schedule for these two posts. Instead of alternating between the two every Sunday, the posts will now be written and posted at any time- as I write them, if you will. The main reason for my decision here is that both are long, complex posts which require a lot of thought, time and effort, and I feel that they will be significantly better if I allow myself all the time I need to write them, and not subject myself to the pressure of deadlines and such. I hope that this way I can bring you editions of these posts which are even better than before!

As always, these four regular articles will be supplemented by others detailing news, reviews, and my opinions on interesting topics concerning Walt Disney World.

Now that I've explained all that, I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Walt Disney World Resort a very happy and magical 42nd anniversary! As I'm sure you know, it is now exactly 42 years ago today- on October 1st 1971- that the Magic Kingdom, WDW's first park, opened. Nowadays, 42 years later, it's the most popular theme park in the world, and is a favourite of many Disney Fans.

I am delighted to announce that not only will tomorrow's Photo of the Week celebrate this wonderful milestone for Walt Disney World, the anniversary will also be the focus of the second edition of 'My Top Seven'. Stay tuned for that later this week!

Thanks for reading! I can't wait to get back into writing for the blog! Please also check out the wonderful We're Going to Walt Disney World Podcast! I hope you have a magical day!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week

One of the most unique areas in the whole of Walt Disney World is without a doubt Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama. This fun, vibrant area is a sub-land of Dinoland USA, itself one of the six lands at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Whilst it may be a small area of the park, Dino-Rama offers several awesome activities, including the Primeval Whirl attraction, one of my favourite Pin Trading locations, a Character Meet & Greet, and much, much more! The area is themed very cleverly, and whilst the Roadside Attraction putting a fun, lighthearted spin on Dinosaurs theme does seem to clash quite noticeably with the rest of Dinoland, Chester and Hester's is actually intricately linked with the rest of the land by a backstory that is not only intriguing, but also absolutely ingenious! It's explained fully in this incredible article by Jack Spence on AllEars.net- I would thoroughly recommend reading it! The backstory really is wonderful, and certainly changed my view of this unique area of Dinoland USA!

Whilst the two areas; Dino-Rama and the remainder of Dinoland, are both part of the same backstory, their individual themes do heavily contrast one another. The great thing is that the Imagineers have ensured that the two areas blend seamlessly together in a thematic sense, thus further reinforcing their backstory and immersion. My picture this week is a perfect example of this very transition between the two areas. It shows an extravagant sign encountered by guests as they exit the Dino Institute, which houses the 'Dinosaur' attraction, and head back toward Chester and Hester's. The sign playfully informs guests that they're entering Dino-Rama, with its tone staying true to the theme, and playing a key part in the guests' journey between the two areas.

So, here it is! I've used my favourite tilt-shift effect, as well as a filter to enhance the rich colours in the photograph. I hope you like it!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week

Hi everyone! As you may have guessed, the Attraction Review was cancelled last week, due to me staying with family. I meant to post on the blog informing you all of this, but was so busy that the opportunity never arose. It'll be published tomorrow. Anyway, here's this week's (slightly late) photo...

It might not be immediately obvious what exactly this picture shows. Whilst it does look like some of the architecture in Adventureland over at the Magic Kingdom, this photograph was actually taken in Africa at Animal Kingdom, in the Kilimanjaro Safaris queue to be exact. Whilst it might not be the most elaborately themed queues around, despite it being for one of the park's busiest and most congested attractions, it really is a wonderful queue, with this cleverly built roof being a great example of how every single part of the parks is themed to the very highest standard. Yes, I do agree that the theming here isn't the most popular, but as with every Disney attraction, it is pretty cool! I really do love this queue, I think it sets the tone perfectly for the attraction!

So, here's the photo!

I've used a filter, which I think has created a really cool effect! I love how adding a filter to photographs of the Disney Parks can really make the picture look, well, magical! This is especially if the filter fits the theme of the part of the park being photographed.

World of Dreams Photo of the Week- Celebrating Mission Space's 10th Birthday!

Today, Mission Space, which is arguably one of Walt Disney World's most intense thrill attractions, celebrates its tenth birthday. Located in Future World East at Epcot, this very unique simulator attraction allows guests to embark on the first ever manned mission to Mars, which naturally doesn't go as smoothly as planned, such is the attraction's storyline.

Despite being one of the most technologically advanced attractions on property, Mission Space isn't as popular amongst Disney Fans as one might think. The reason for this is that it replaced Horizons, an Epcot attraction which was a very firm favourite amongst guests. As obviously a Disney Fan myself, I do resent the removal of Horizons from the park, as I was never able to experience it and have gained an appreciation through reading articles and watching videos of how magical this attraction was. However, I think it's unfair to judge Mission Space on this principal. It's an incredible attraction in its own right, and whilst it may or may not be as good as Horizons was, the fact remains that it's a cutting edge attraction that is not only very creative and well Imagineered, but has also remained at the forefront of technology, even after a decade of operation. It's one of my favourite attractions.

My photo this week shows the incredible entrance area for Mission Space. Called Planetary Plaza, this area has so much to see, from awe-inspiring models of planets and moons to inspirational quotes from people such as astronauts, you'll want to spend some time fully exploring it. I remember Planetary Plaza taking my breath away the first time I saw it, and it's never failed to do the same each time I've returned to the attraction!

Whilst the stunning architecture here is such that one could spend hours photographing it from a multitude of different angles, my photo is a pretty basic shot of the whole area. I'm planning to take a proper camera on my next trip, so hopefully I can get a variety of great quality photos of Planetary Plaza to share on the blog.

Anyway, here's the photo!

I'm actually quite pleased with how it's turned out, considering I captured this image on my iPod! I've added a filter and a tilt shift effect, and I think it's turned out really well!!!

Happy Birthday Mission Space!

My Thoughts On The New Opening Process For Disney's Animal Kingdom!

Hi everyone! Apologies for the week without a new post on the blog. I've been away for a week (not to Disney), and I will admit I was very disorganised, so therefore couldn't find the time to write anything- I was either too busy or too tired! Now that I'm back, however, posting will resume as normal.

Today I'm going to talk about an interesting news story from the past couple of days that really grabbed my attention. What with all the awesome stuff going on at the D23 Expo this past weekend, this story, for what it is, has gone relatively unnoticed. This news is that Disney's Animal Kingdom has seen a drastic and pretty unique change to how it opens each morning. The traditional rope drop by the Tip Board on Discovery Island has gone, and has been replaced by a new system which sees guests let into the park 15 minutes prior to the official opening time. They are at this point allowed into the park, and are given the opportunity to do some of the park's awesome attractions before the time that the Animal Kingdom's official opening arrives. At present, three attractions are participating in this system, namely Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and TriceraTop Spin.

I know, I was a little surprised by that last one too, but what I should imagine Disney are trying to do here is to firstly cater to all age groups and demographics with these early openings, and also to distribute crowds around the park as equally and evenly as possible. TriceraTop Spin may be a low capacity, moderately themed cycle ride, but it is an attraction that ticks both of those boxes. Indeed, I happen to really enjoy TriceraTop Spin- it's a fun take on a classic Disney ride system.

Whilst I'm not sure how this new opening effects or is effected by morning Extra Magic Hours at the park, what we do know is that park wide Fastpass distribution still doesn't begin until official park opening. Unfortunately, this leads us onto yet another thing we don't know about this system, which is how it'll work with Fastpass+ when that's fully implemented. Obviously I have no idea, but I expect that Fastpass+ reservations won't be offered for the 15 minutes prior to the park's posted opening time, as that quarter of an hour isn't inside the official park opening times. Therefore, it's not officially considered to be open, even though it is. Just like you can't get a Fastpass on the current 'Classic' Fastpass system for after a park closes, even if it doesn't actually end up closing at the official time, I'm guessing that the same will apply for before the park is officially open.

After this news having been around for a day or two now, it's becoming apparent what the majority of us Disney Fans think about it. From what I've read, opinions are pretty mixed, with a lot of people like myself being torn as to what they think about this innovative new opening procedure for AK. I personally am intrigued as to how this unique new system functions, and am interested to see how it works over time and how it deals with different crowd levels. I still heavily favour the traditional park opening ceremony and rope drop which is sadly featuring less and less in the parks, but I am always all for Disney trying out new things, especially with how they manage this vital part of the park day.

It seems to me like they are definitely doing this in the interest of enriching the guest experience. I can see no way that this could be a cost cutting initiative for them- surely opening attractions earlier will cost more in wages and power- and instead I see it as their way of distributing the crowds as equal as is feasible prior to park opening. Opening just the three attractions located pretty much equidistant from each other should achieve this, making traffic flow more balanced and less chaotic for when the remainder of the park opens- something which will really help this wonderful park that is- despite its status as Walt Disney World's largest park- typically quite congested.

I'm still not entirely sure how this system will provide the most efficient way of opening the park, but I do have compete confidence that Disney, thanks to their years of experiences running theme parks, will know exactly what they're doing and get it completely right. I also see several advantages and disadvantages for how we tour this park. I am concerned that maybe it could produce slightly disproportionate wait times in the first few hours of park operation, and could also jeopardise the plans of people who already have breakfast ADRs planned for the park. But I know that Disney will have most certainly taken these things into consideration when planning the change, so there'll be no problem. Besides, there's the trump card of more park time equals more experiences- definitely a massive win here! In my opinion, just one extra ride on Everest, the Safari or even TriceraTop Spin is a big bonus!

Now it's your turn- I want to hear your opinion if you want to share it! Do you welcome this change? How do you predict it will influence your touring of Animal Kingdom? Maybe you've visited the park recently and experienced this new opening system for yourself- in which case I'd love to know your thoughts! If you want to share your opinion, you can do so by commenting, Tweeting me @BloggerDisney, posting on the blog's Facebook page, or emailing me at worldofdreamsblog@gmail.com
I'd love to hear from you!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week- Special Edition!

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you enjoyed my review of It's a Small World, which was posted yesterday!

This week's edition of Photo of the Week is a very exciting and special one, celebrating the arrival of Mosi the Giraffe, who was born recently at Disney's Animal Kingdom. He's the first Masai Giraffe to be born at the Animal Kingdom, and has fittingly been named 'Mosi', which means 'first'. The name was chosen by readers of the Disney Parks Blog in an online poll, with Mosi being one of several options presented by Disney for the name of this adorable baby Giraffe. Having personally voted for the name Mosi myself, I'm thrilled that I wasn't alone in loving this beautiful name, and I really do think it's the perfect name for the first Masai Giraffe born at Disney!

The poll is now closed, but I would still thoroughly recommend reading the wonderful article which accompanied it. Not only does it feature loads of incredibly interesting facts about Mosi, the Disney Giraffes and Giraffes in general, it also has a remarkably cute picture of Mosi. He is a simply gorgeous baby giraffe, and I hope to see him next time I ride Kilimanjaro Safaris, the attraction at Animal Kingdom which he now calls home! He's certainly one lucky giraffe!

Speaking of Kilimanjaro Safaris, another amazing article was published yesterday on the Disney Parks Blog, which revealed that Mosi had made an appearance at the Kilimanjaro Safaris Savanna for the very first time! This awesome article was also the official announcement that the name Mosi had won the poll, and would therefore be the baby giraffe's name. My favourite thing about this article is by far the two beautiful pictures which were shared of Mosi's very special first day out on the savanna, as well as an exquisite video, which shows him exploring his new home with his mother, and also features an interview with Steve Castillo, the Zoological Manager at Animal Kingdom.

And that brings me to my Photo of the Week, or should I say PHOTOS of the Week!!! To celebrate the newest edition to Kilimanjaro Safaris, I have two pictures to share- a firdt for Photo of the Week- each showing two of his fellow giraffes who live at the attraction too. Unfortunately I don't know if these giraffes are related to Mosi at all, but they're definitely his 'neighbours'! These photos were taken last October, long before Mosi was born, so I'm afraid I have no way if knowing if they're part of his family. Nevertheless, I'm sure all the giraffes are great friends now, as all the magnificent animals at Kilimanjaro Safaris always seem to be!

I must apologise for the bad quality of these photos; they were shot on my iPod, which doesn't stabilise images very well. Considering I was in one of the Safari trucks, and we only spotted the two giraffes at the last minute, it was difficult to get a good photo!

I have edited both images, and despite the poor quality of the originals, I'm actually really proud of how the edits turned out. In fairness, when I originally took these photos I was on a moving vehicle! Anyway, I'm really happy with my edits!

So, without further ado, here they are!

For the first one, I applied a filter, which I really think adds an element of authenticity to the image. I don't know why, but it really does add to the photo, and I think makes it more vivid and visually interesting:

For the second, I changed the brightness, saturation and contrast, and applied a tilt shift effect to the photograph, focusing on the giraffes themselves:

As I said, I really do like how these edits have turned out, especially seeing as they both have the track the giraffes are walking along as a very clear leading line, one of my very favourite photographic elements! I tried to make both pictures sum up the excitement and awe of seeing the majestically beautiful animals on Kilimanjaro Safaris, and I really hope the photographs have achieved this!

Before I go, I just wanted to remark upon how excited I'm getting about MyMagic+. I'm especially enjoying the My Disney Experience app, for which a new update was recently released, which most notably no longer requires you to be logged in to view current wait times at Walt Disney World. I really can't wait to try the app and all the other terrific features of MyMagic+ next time I visit WDW!

Thanks for reading! If you get a moment, please follow me on Instagram, where I will from now on post the pictures from Photo of the Week, (as well as them being posted normally on the blog of course), as well as the pictures I already post of everything Disney I encounter in my day to day life! Attraction Review- It's a Small World

Hi everyone! Here's this week's Attraction Review... Five days late. Sorry, I know I promised it for Friday, but it's taken a long time to write, and I've been busier than planned, doing things like cycling, school revision and going to see Monsters University at the cinema- it was awesome by the way! After today's review, I will post a special edition of Photo of the Week tomorrow, followed by a review of an Epcot attraction on Friday! So, without further ado, here's this week's review!

For a couple of years now, big changes have been happening in Fantasyland, the signature land of the Magic Kingdom, which is itself Walt Disney World's signature park. Incredibly themed new areas of the land, namely Storybook Circus and Enchanted Forest, have come to fruition, bringing with them incredible new experiences, most notably the Be Our Guest Restaurant, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, Enchanted Tales With Belle, as well as many other awesome new attractions, restaurants, and shops. There are even some attractions which are still yet to open as part of what is the biggest expansion in the Magic Kingdom's history.

However, one of my favourite things about how Disney have overhauled Fantasyland is the way that they have left many of the area's classic attractions untouched, theming the expansion so cleverly that such classics still fit perfectly into this quintessential area of the park, and still have a place there. The attraction I'm reviewing today fits into a distinct group within this assortment of Fantasyland's classics, thanks to its status as one of the bMagic Kingdom's opening day attractions. Not only that, but it has arguably the richest history of any Disney attraction, let alone just those attractions within the Magic Kingdom or even Fantasyland itself. It just so happens to have a famously catchy theme song too...

Now, before I break out in spontaneous singing of that very song, (try saying that ten times in a row!), I will tell you that I am of course talking about the wonderful It's a Small World ride. This charming little attraction, located on the west side of Fantasyland opposite Peter Pan's Flight, features a relaxing boat ride past hundreds of singing and dancing animatronic dolls, with each scene representing one of the world's continents, and the countries within it. Often referred to as 'the happiest cruise that ever sailed', this happy, upbeat attraction was originally developed by Walt Disney and his Imagineers for the New York World's Fair in 1964, and has since had different versions opened at each of Disney's Castle parks across the globe, with the Magic Kingdom's version being the second incarnation of the attraction to debut in the parks, following Disneyland's in 1966. Disneyland's version is actually the original version from the Fair, which was moved to the park and rebuilt there.

The Magic Kingdom's version, which is of course the one I'm focusing on today, has perhaps seen the most changes of any of the versions. The current It's a Small World at the Magic Kingdom uniquely features the wonderfully detailed facade, one of the most recognisable elements of this attraction, indoors, whereas every other It's a Small World has an outdoor facade. Guests enter the building, and queue largely indoors, with the boarding area being another level down from where you enter the building. You then board your boat, which then peacefully or annoyingly (depending on whether you like the song- I do) embarks on your 'voyage around the world'. The attraction has a very strong message, of unity and the importance of world peace, and features beautifully themed sets representing different parts of the world.

Of course, it's impossible to talk about It's a Small World without talking about its theme song, which goes by the same name. Each of the It's a Small World attractions around the world features this song, but it does differ slightly depending on the park. When Walt Disney was planning the attraction, he asked the Sherman Brothers to compose a song for it, and the It's a Small World song was the one they created, in co-operation with him. Walt wanted a song that could be translated into many different languages, and was so pleased with the result that he actually re-named the attraction, which was originally going to be named 'Children of the World', after the song. The song is one of the biggest parts of the experience, being the principal conveyor of the attraction's message of peace, which I mentioned earlier. I have even read several articles and websites claiming that the It's a Small World song is not only the most translated piece of music on Earth, but the most performed too- a truly incredible fact and yet more proof as to how massively influential this song is. It's certainly one of the most popular and ubiquitous pieces of Disney music!

I personally do really enjoy this song. I love the message it sends out, and the nostalgia it has, seeing as Walt himself was actually involved in its creation. It's also incredibly catchy- one of those songs that you'll find yourself humming for the rest of your trip- I certainly do! However, it's fair to say that not everyone likes the song as much as I do, as it is very catchy, a little repetitive and really does get stuck in your head incredibly easily! I can certainly see why some people don't like it!

Upon entering Fantasyland from Liberty Square, It's a Small World is one of the first attractions one encounters, meaning that the wait times for it are somewhat unpredictable, with several factors coming into play here. I've seen wait times all over the place over the course of a few days compared to one another, on both occasions that we have visited Walt Disney World, which have themselves been at different times of the year. This has been despite the park's overall crowd level being largely the same. So, when I couple this experience of my own with just casually checking Lines whilst at home, as many of us do, and noticing the same variations, I would say that it's safe to assume that this is the norm for the attraction.

Like I said, the waits you will typically come across at It's a Small World see unpredictable, almost dramatic variations. As I hypothesised, this is due to a number of varying factors, as every attraction in any park is subject to, to some extent. The first, and arguably most unpredictable of these factors is the guests themselves. How will they enter Fantasyland? And therefore at what point will they discover It's a Small World? Will they choose to do it after some of the Magic Kingdom and Fantasyland's bigger attractions? If entering the land from Liberty Square, will they experience it as soon as they find it, or will they save it for after the more popular Fantasyland experiences? All intriguing questions indeed, and all themselves factors influencing how guests tour the park. And then, of course, there's if that guest has a limit to how long they're prepared to wait for this attraction, and lastly, do they even want to ride It's a Small World? Aside from the guests themselves, also influential here is Small World's location at one of the busiest entrances to Fantasyland, and whatever time of day you visit it, which is of course true for every attraction to some extent.

As evidenced above, pretty much all of the major and noteworthy factors in play here do link back to the guests themselves, as would be expected of a theme park attraction! There is however one more element worth mentioning here, and that is capacity. Small World's capacity is actually pretty good, with it having similar ride vehicles and loading areas to it's fellow Magic Kingdom attraction Pirates of the Caribbean, which is itself the highest capacity attraction in the entire park. Whilst the waits are always unpredictable, one thing you can be certain about is that they'll almost always be low, and this is largely thanks to the large capacity.

With regards to the actual times themselves, I've never seen the wait at anything more than 25 minutes, and it's usually significantly less than that, taking into consideration the fact that wait times at WDW tend to be shorter than the actual posted time. All of the articles I've read in various Books and on different Websites over the years would suggest that this is the case at It's a Small World for the vast majority of the time. Fastpass wise, Small World does not participate in the current classic Fastpass system, but will offer Fastpass+ when that's fully launched. I would recommend experiencing Small World after all the park's headliners, or whenever you feel appropriate. Please note that these observations concerning typical wait times may not be completely accurate, as they're based solely on my personal experiences.

Here's how I would personally rate It's a Small World in the following areas, and why...

Thrill~ 5/10
I would say that Small World is moderately thrilling. Sure, there's no proper drops, but there's something to be said about the thrill of riding such a wonderful, cutely themed little attraction!

Scariness~ 9/10
This one really depends on if you've read Ridley Pearson's popular Kingdom Keepers series, the first book of which features a scene in which the Keepers are seeking things in the Magic Kingdom which refer to certain other things. I won't give it all away in case you haven't read the books (if not, you should check them out- they're awesome!) but what I will say is that they choose to search It's a Small World, and all the dolls come to life. And they're not exactly friendly dolls, too. So if you have read the series, as I have, you may well see It's a Small World in a different light, with it maybe going from near the Dumbo end of the spectrum to closer to the Tower of Terror in terms of scariness...

Theming~ 8/10
I'll be totally honest here, I've ridden the version of Small World at Disneyland Paris, and that had theming which was slightly better than the Magic Kingdom version. I guess this is because it's newer, more open in terms of the facade being outdoors, and bigger. It just felt a little more immersive than WDW's version. That said, however, the Magic Kingdom's version is really good in its own right. Not only does it have its unique indoor facade, which makes it feel almost cosy and therefore perfectly counters the aforementioned argument about the outdoor facades being bigger and more open, but it's also got that distinct charm of a classic attraction, with it being only the second Small World to open, and also part of the Magic Kingdom, itself only the second Disney Park to open. And of course, Walt Disney himself created the original version of this attraction, further cementing its status as a Disney classic.

Educational~ 9/10
The great thing about It's a Small World is that it's a fun attraction with vibrant theming and a catchy song, but is also a great way to teach kids about the fascinating world that we live in. Not only is it accurate, but the genius of it is how it tells you so much about all these places without the use of words, it's all there to see in the beautifully designed sets. I've heard people say that Small World and it's educational elements are made redundant by World Showcase at Epcot, but I fundamentally disagree with this. Not only does It's a Small World use the same kind of concepts to depict the world, but it's also in my opinion a lot more kid friendly for a multitude of reasons. Such reasons include the fact that it's all there in one ride, and doesn't take as long to experience, as well as being largely sets on a dark ride as opposed to the World Showcase Pavilions, which I guess must be themselves categorised as walkthroughs. Lastly, the dolls and almost cartoonish sets make the attraction a lot more fun and visually appealing for children. I am however not saying that you shouldn't experience World Showcase- you should. It's incredible, and I think that absolutely everybody should experience both It's a Small World at the Magic Kingdom and World Showcase at Epcot on a trip to Walt Disney World- they're both awesome!

Fun~ 10/10
This upbeat, happy attraction is one of those that always makes me feel more cheery on a hot day, mostly because it's such a joy to experience. I always walk out of the attraction with a massive smile spreading across my face! Indeed, it's always been one of my favourites! Everything about this attraction is just so cheerful and pleasant, and is a fitting celebration of our wonderful world!

Interactivity~ 7/10
Whilst the more traditional interactive elements are non-existent here, you could always... Sing along!

Repeatability~ 6/10
I personally think that there's so much to see in It's a Small World that you could ride it a hundred times and still spot something new every time! Beware though, that song is incredibly catchy! On a more serious note, there can sometimes be a bit of a wait to disembark at the end of the attraction; we have several times encountered a queue of boats waiting to get to the unloading area. Like I said before, you should experience Small World after the park's more major attractions, and so should therefore prioritise repeat rides for them. However, if you have the time or so desire, Small World is a great ride to experience multiple times!

And finally, my overall rating of It's a Small World... 8/10!
I know I have a habit of loving the less popular attractions (!) but I really do think that Small World is a complete attraction. From the catchy song to the energetic theme, It's a Small World is another great example of how an attraction doesn't need to be a high-tech thrill ride to be a success. All the remarkable elements of It's a Small World combine to make it a masterpiece of an attraction!

Summer!

Hello everyone! I'm afraid that there will be no Photo of the Week this week. Here in England summer has just started, with school finishing just the other day, and I've been incredibly busy. Things such as end of year Student Council meetings have taken up a lot of my time. Luckily, I really enjoy being a part of Student Council! Unfortunately this alongside several other things have meant that I've been extremely busy, hitherto meaning I didn't get the chance to write Photo of the Week. I don't particularly want to post it late, as tomorrow I will be publishing an Attraction Review of a classic Magic Kingdom attraction.

I won't say which one- only that it's in Fantasyland- I want it to be a surprise as I'm midway through the article and am really enjoying writing it! Stay tuned for that article tomorrow afternoon!

Another piece of good news- now that summer's here, I'll have a lot more time to spend improving the blog! I promise to get everything organised, so all posts should be on time from now on! I also have exciting plans for more pages for the blog, which I can't wait to share with you!

Thanks for reading, and have a magical day!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week

Hi everybody, and welcome to Photo of the Week! As I'm sure you're aware, here at Photo of the Week, I like to celebrate the fact that every single part of Walt Disney World is absolutely beautiful, adding up to an exquisite environment ingeniously created by the awesome Disney Imagineers. This week's photo pays homage to the fact that this 'rule' applies to EVERY single bit of WDW, be it a park or a parking lot. And the area shown in this week's image is... A bus stop area! Yes, I know, but I do genuinely think that even these areas, which aren't themselves part of the experiences of the parks or resorts, but rather a place to get transportation between them, are pretty cool!

As you can see from the photo below, which showcases the busy bus stop outside Disney's Hollywood Studios, the bus stops outside the parks and their surrounding area do reflect the theme of the park, more often than not the theme of the park entrance. It is of course from these bus stops that Disney Resort Guests can catch the complimentary bus to return them to their resorts, arguably one of the greater perks when staying on site.

So, here it is...

Hi Everyone

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to a magical week. I would firstly like to apologise for the unacceptable lack of posts on the blog this past week. The end of the school year is approaching fast here in England, and with it so are the end of year exams! As I'm sure you understand, I've had to be studying hard for these exams, so really have had no time to write anything for the blog. All my exams are over the next couple of days, so this week the blog will return to normal, beginning with an edition of Photo of the Week on Wednesday. I can't wait to share some new articles with you on the blog!

Before I go, I would just like to wish everybody on the Be Our Guest Podcast Cruise on the incredible Disney Dream a magical time on the ship! They are sailing out of Port Canaveral, Florida as I write this, and I really enjoyed watching everybody on the Port Canaveral Webcam wearing their Santa Hats as the ship sailed away, and I hope you all really enjoy the cruise! I would also like to wish everyone at Walt Disney World right now a magical trip!

Wherever you are, I hope you have a magical week everyone! Please also check out the awesome We're Going To Walt Disney World Podcast! I hope you're enjoying your day!!!

Attraction Review~ Sports Arena Arcade

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having an awesome weekend, especially those of you who are at Walt Disney World for the Be Our Guest Podcast Cruise! I hope everyone has a magical time!

Today's Attraction Review is a little different from the usual. As I'm sure you're aware, it's DisneyQuest's turn to have an attraction featured in this article, and the attraction I have chosen from there isn't really your regular attraction, with it being neither a ride nor a show. It is, however, identified as an attraction on the awesome DisneyQuest guide map, so hitherto qualifies to be reviewed here.

Anyone who's ever visited DisneyQuest will know that one its main draws is it's ubiquitous selection of arcade games which feature alongside some of the major attractions in this "Indoor Interactive Theme Park", such as the Virtual Jungle Cruise and CyberSpace Mountain. Of course, this being Disney, these arcade areas are themed beautifully, fitting perfectly into the rest of DisneyQuest, and the environment the Imagineers have created here is much, much better than a regular arcade.

My favourite of these arcade areas in DisneyQuest, which each feature games which are similarly themed and are themselves classified as attractions, is the Sports Arena Arcade, which is on the fourth floor of DQ. As the name would suggest, this area of DisneyQuest features games themed to sports, with some being more interactive than others. A vast variety of sports are represented, including baseball, fishing and basketball, amongst many others, and the majority are included in admission to DisneyQuest. The only things not included in admission to DQ are prize play games and photo booths.

As DisneyQuest isn't amazingly popular, queues and crowds aren't going to be horrific apart from in peak season and when the weather's bad, so you can pretty much go anytime. Generally, the middle of the day and early afternoon are quietest in Downtown Disney and DisneyQuest, so that's the best time to visit. As for the Sports Arena Arcade specifically, I would recommend experiencing it after DisneyQuest's major attractions.

Here's how I would rate the Sports Arena Arcade in the following areas, and why...

Thrill~ 6/10
None of these games are particularly thrilling, but there is of course the feeling of thrill associated with playing video games and striving to win or get a high score!

Scariness~ 1/10
Again, these are sports games, so aren't at all scary!

Theming~ 7/10
For what it is, DisneyQuest's theme is great, and this area is no exception. Whilst I'd like to see more complete theming across DQ, it really isn't that bad. Seeing as this area is full of sports games, it would be nice to see the theme reflect this more, with more things such as sporting memorabilia added to the existing theming. Nevertheless, I do think that the Imagineers got the theme and atmosphere in this arcade pretty much spot on!

Educational~ 7/10
Whilst it's certainly not the most educational of DisneyQuest's numerous offerings, Sports Arena Arcade does have some cool educational aspects. As well as the obvious teaching of the rules and techniques of certain sports, which is awesome, these games do feature some references to maths, which is obviously a fundamental part of sports!

Fun~ 10/10
It really is true that sometimes the simpler things in life are some of the best. I've always said that this 'rule' applies for Walt Disney World, and I can't think of many better examples than DisneyQuest attractions, with Sports Arena Arcade being one of the best! I personally, as many people do, really enjoy sports, and for that reason Sports Arena Arcade is one of my favourite areas at DisneyQuest. I always really enjoy the interactivity of the games here, especially the ones such as the basketball game, where you actually throw real basketballs into a real basketball hoop. It's also a great opportunity to get to do some sports, even if the majority are virtual, as there aren't many other opportunities to play sport on Disney Trips. You might even discover a new sport that you enjoy playing as a video game and then decide to try out for real!
Naturally any combination of sports, video games and Disney is going to be incredibly spectacularly fun!!!

Interactivity~ 10/10
The best thing about DisneyQuest has to be its abundant interactivity, and that's especially true at the Sports Arena Arcade. The fact that YOU are in control of the game is more than enough to justify this perfect score!

Repeatability~ 9/10
It's a given that the high score for interactivity is gonna reflect in the score for repeatability; the two are so closely linked. A lot of these games take time to master, and you'll want to play them again and again because they're so fun! Add to this the prospect of improving high scores and honing your skills and you have an attraction that has enormous potential to be repeatably experienced again and again!

And finally, my overall rating of Sports Arena Arcade~ 8/10
I really do like this area. Sure, it's no Soarin', Expedition Everest, or even CyberSpace Mountain, but what it is is fun, and there's no questioning that! Whilst it's never a priority for touring (DisneyQuest itself isn't always) I do try to spend time here if I can. I would really recommend trying this wonderful collection of Sports Games out if you haven't already- I'm sure you'll really enjoy the experience!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week

Hello everyone! I apologise for the lack of posts on the blog last week, I've been doing some more behind the scenes changes to the blog, and so it was difficult to be able to post any new articles. I've finished all my changes to the blog, so the posting schedule will return to normal from now on!

This week represents a first for Photo of the Week, with this being that today's featured photo is the first I have shared which shows one of Walt Disney World's beautiful resort hotels. And where better to start than Disney's flagship resort at WDW; The Grand Floridian. Officially known as "Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa", this awesome hotel is located on Seven Seas Lagoon, just across from the Magic Kingdom, and is themed to reflect a Victorian Seaside Resort. It opened in 1988, and offers one of the best ranges of amenities on property, with significantly more than even its fellow Deluxe Resorts.

My photo of this incredible resort was captured from the Express Monorail, on a commute between the Magic Kingdom and the Transportation & Ticket Centre. Any commute on the Walt Disney World Monorail System offers unique views of some of WDW's greatest landmarks, and this journey offers no exception, with passing through the Grand Floridian one of its highlights. I took this photograph on the stretch of the journey between the park and the resort. Whilst this loop doesn't actually stop at any of the resorts, only MK and the TTC, it does provide stunning views of them, including the one shown in the picture. I have edited this photo slightly, and have tried to do so with the theme of the resort in mind, so to hitherto make it as authentic as possible, as I always aim to do with all my photography. I think the 'tilt-shift' filter I used really enhances the photograph!

So, here it is...

Attraction Review~ Humunga Kowabunga

Typhoon Lagoon's Mount Mayday might not reach as far into the sky as Mount Gushmore at its sister park, Blizzard Beach, but there is no doubting the fact that it has its fair share of wonderful waterslides. Each one fits exquisitely into the storm hit tropical paradise theme of the park, fitting in beautifully with the waterfalls and other water features which tumble off the mountain.

The most thrilling of this awesome collection of waterslides is the incredibly fun Humunga Kowabunga, three identical side by side speed slides, each 214 feet long, which whisk guests down the mountain... In the dark! Not only that, but each slide is incredibly steep, meaning that it's apparently possible to reach speeds of up to 39mph!

This attraction has a height restriction of 48 inches (122cm) and is located on the right hand side of the park, next to the Storm Slides, and is accessed via the Mount Mayday's right slope. And location isn't the only thing these two attractions have in common. Humunga Kowabunga, like the Storm Slides, rarely has a very long queue, at least, not in my experience! I've personally never seen the line at Humunga at more than 20-25 minutes, not even on busier days at this amazing waterpark. No Disney waterpark attraction offers Fastpass, so I would say the best time to ride Humunga Kowabunga would be after experiencing some of the park's more popular attractions, including Shark Reef and Crush 'n' Gusher, amongst others. The fact that Humunga Kowabunga features 3 separate slides makes the line move faster. About two thirds of the way through the line you will encounter a fork in the path. Bear right to get to the slides; the left hand path takes you on Typhoon Lagoon's Mountain Trail, a truly beautiful pathway across Mount Mayday which hardly ever has anybody walking along it. It's great to explore, and I would really recommend it to anybody visiting the park. If anything, it's an effective way of crossing the park without having to walk around the massive Surf Pool or along Castaway Creek. I love how it's so tranquil, passes through some amazingly themed landscape, and provides impressive views of the park.

Here's how I would rate Humunga Kowabunga in the following areas, and why:

Thrill~ 9/10
All you have to do is read the aforementioned statistics, and you'll have no doubt that this is an extremely thrilling attraction! The standout one is this slide's remarkable speed, of up to 39 miles per hour. To put things into perspective, that's 11mph faster than Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom, which itself clocks in at 27mph! It's very exhilarating to shoot down these spectacular waterslides!

Scariness~ 8/10
This is a serious thrill ride, and thus isn't at all for the faint hearted! You plummet 214 in pitch darkness at incredible speeds, before swiftly emerging at the bottom. These elements all combine to make Humunga Kowabunga considerably scary, and by far the scariest attraction in the entire park.

Theming~ 10/10
I really do make no secret of the fact that I love Typhoon Lagoon's theme- it's absolutely superb! Humunga Kowabunga is the highest attraction on Mount Mayday, with the start of the three slides situated not far below Miss Tilly, the boat which perches atop the mountain, and serves as the park's icon. An abundance of lovely little streams cascade down to Humunga Kowabunga from the mountain's peak, passing through the area in which you stand awaiting your turn on the attraction, before continuing on down the mountain. These streams, which exist throughout the park and feed many of its attractions (an element which I adore, and really adds authenticity to the theming), are supplemented by the 50 foot geyser which erupts from the peak of Mount Gushmore every 30 minutes, creating a mini surge of water, which is wonderful to watch if you're lucky enough to be at the top of Humunga Kowabunga when it happens. The landscaping here is simply gorgeous, and there aren't many things better in life than waiting at the top of Humunga Kowabunga in the warm Florida sun with cool water whirling around your feet, with unbeatable views of Typhoon Lagoon and parts of Downtown Disney set out before your eyes!

Educational~ 3/10
Humunga Kowabunga may not be an educational attraction, but it sure teaches you about how cool gravity is!

Fun~ 7/10
Humunga Kowabunga is definitely designed to be thrilling, so it therefore must be awesome fun too! For all the reasons I've already mentioned this attraction provides a great experience! Indeed, it's great fun just to queue for this attraction, such is the fantastic theming which surrounds it! However, it does hurt slightly when you hit the water at the bottom. Sure, it's more than worth it, but this isn't too fun! Regardless, everything else about Humunga Kowabunga cancels out this one small negative.

Repeatability~ 5/10
I'll be perfectly honest, you're gonna pretty much get the same experience every time here. All three slides are identical, so you won't see any differences. However, such is the thrill of this attraction, you'll most likely want to ride it more than once- I know I always do! As with almost every waterslide, there are a lot of stairs to climb, which can get difficult for anybody in the hot sun- another thing to consider here. Yet another reason to repeat is to be able to see the amazing theming again!

Interactivity~ 1/10
I think this is the lowest rating I've ever given for a Disney attraction! *sad face*
There really is no interactivity with Humunga Kowabunga, you have no control over how you descend the slide. You have to cross your arms and legs, so I guess the only thing you could do to make it more scary is close your eyes! That's not to say it isn't a good experience though- interactivity is by no means vital to any attraction.

And finally, my overall rating of Humunga Kowabunga~ 9/10
As I'm sure you've guessed by now, I'm a pretty big fan of Humunga Kowabunga! I love its thrill, its theming, its levels of fun, everything, really! Whilst it is a bit short, all speed slides are, it's just the nature of this variety of waterslide. The theming here truly is incredible, some of my favourite in the whole of Walt Disney World, and I really don't consider there to be any negatives with Humunga Kowabunga.

Thanks for reading! I would love to hear your views on Humunga Kowabunga- please leave a comment or post on the Blog's Facebook Page! Please also check out the awesome We're Going To Walt Disney World Podcast! Have a magical day!

World of Dreams Photo of the Week

Hello everyone and welcome to Photo of the Week! I must apologise for not posting an Attraction Review and My Top Seven earlier this week as I originally promised- they'll be posted tomorrow and Sunday instead. I was a lot busier with sports and school council than I originally expected- so didn't get the opportunity to post the articles!

As with last week's photo, which showed the entrance to the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland, this week's image comes from a Walt Disney World land which is somewhat themed to the future, in this case Future World at Epcot. This incredible part of Epcot features many unique and wonderful attractions, one of my favourite being The Seas With Nemo and Friends Pavilion. The standout feature of this beautiful pavilion is an omnimover ride of the same name, which we discussed on Show 32 of the We're Going To Walt Disney World Podcast.

Following their experience on this hi-tech ride, guests can explore a series of fascinating exhibits about our planet's enormous oceans, their inhabitants, and our responsibilities in conserving them. One of my personal favourites of these marvellous exhibits is one which features several small tanks showcasing a variety of marine life. Of course, the highlight of this area of the pavilion is the tank containing a shoal of clownfish, the same species as Nemo himself. Upon my last visit to Epcot, I snapped several photos of this lovely tank on my iPod, and was pleased with the results. The photo below was my favourite of the images I captured, and has been edited slightly to make it even more aesthetically pleasing! As you can see from the picture, the name of the pavilion doesn't lie- Nemo has lots of friends!

Rumours Intensify Concerning the Future of Disney's Hollywood Studios...

As I'm sure you're aware, recent days have seen a flurry of activity in the Disney Community, as rumours about the much speculated makeover for Disney's Hollywood Studios have intensified. Anybody who reads a lot of Disney related articles and blog posts will be no stranger to the fact that this park in particular always seems to have several rumours floating around it, but this one is huge even by DHS' standards! It's been expected in the Disney Community for a while now that the park would be receiving a major overhaul sometime in the not so distant future, but it's been unclear what exactly this project will include.

Some people have said that the Studios will be getting a version of the hugely popular Cars Land at Disney California Adventure, whilst others have been insisting that a Star Wars Land will be the big news instead. Both have seemed equally likely, the former because George Kalogridis, the former president of the Disneyland Resort who oversaw the original Cars Land's construction, now has moved to WDW where he works in the same role, and the latter because of Disney's acquisition of LucasFilm last October. I for one would have been incredibly thrilled with either, but as these articles on Theme Park Insider and Orlando Theme Park News would suggest, we might be getting both! Speculation would suggest that Cars Land would occupy the land which currently plays host to the Backlot Tour and Lights, Motors, Action Show, with Star Wars taking up land around the current Star Tours attraction, or even extending the park beyond its current boundaries. I think personally that the latter option would be better for Star Wars, as it would allow Muppet Vision 3D to stay, unless of course that show was moved elsewhere. I really can't see them getting rid of the Muppets!

I would thoroughly recommend reading both of the aforementioned articles- they both contain absolutely everything you need to know about what is rumoured to be happening- which is a lot! I know that nothing's official yet, but if Disney do indeed go ahead with this expansion, then I'm positive that it'll be a great move for them, and, of course, for us Disney Fans! What with all the competition from Universal over the past couple of years, in my opinion it's only a matter of time before Disney announce something on this scale, and judging from what I've read, it would leave Universal miles behind! Not only can Star Wars boast more popularity than Universal's Harry Potter, it has so much more potential for translation into a theme park environment, whilst Cars similarly outweighs Universal's Simpsons and Transformers attractions in my opinion.

There is so much information surrounding these rumours that it would be impossible to fit it all into one blog post, so again I encourage you to check out the two articles mentioned above! They're great sources of information! It has been speculated by many Disney Fans that Cars would open in 2017, with Star Wars following suit in 2018, but nobody really knows, we are after all at the stage where these things are merely rumours. The big announcement, if there indeed is one, is expected to come at the popular D23 Expo in California this year. It's also worth checking out the comments sections in each of the two articles, not only do they include some other awesome rumours, but some interesting opinions too.

All I will say at this point is that whatever happens, the future looks very bright for Disney's Hollywood Studios!

Please note that the rumours described in this post remain at this point in time rumours, and should therefore be treated as rumours.
